Antique Majolica Toby Jug Sarreguemines France Circa 1890. Shipped with USPS Priority Mail.
About 130 years old, no cracks but faint crazing, as expected with this age. Glaze is in perfect condition, except for slight scratch (barely perceptible) between the left cheek and ear.
This is the Jolly Fellow face jug, with red cheeks and nose and a smirk on his face. The inside is a lovely bright turquoise blue.
Dimensions: 5.375" tall, 5.5" deep (nose to ba...ck of handle).
This majolica grotesque comes from Utzschneider and Company, a porcelain factory founded in about 1775, which uses the name of the French town Sarreguemines as part of its mark. The company is well known for its colorful majolica china and character jugs.
