Very rare old / antique souvenir collotype photo prints album / souvenir book / travel album (overall size closed: 28, 7 x 23, 2 cm / 1910-1915) entitled " Scenes in Peking Series 1 / Published by the Camera Craft Co. Peking " showing a small view of the Camel bridge at the Summer Palace

" Peking, The Camera Craft, n.d. [ca. 1915]. Album in-4 in the Italian style, brown paper cover, title in white letters (p...artially embossed ), an oval medallion illustrated with the Camel bridge at the Summer Palace, leaves assembled by a cord. [6] leaves. 12 collotypes (19, 3 x 14, 2 cm): Title printed in white letters on the collotypes: Chien Men Gate /Chien Men Street / The Altar of Heaven / The Temple of Heaven / The Lama Temple / The Hall of Classics / Summer Palace / Hata-Men Street / South West Block House / The Ming Tombs / South West Block House (it is included twice !) / The Mings Tombs (it is included twice !) / The Ming Tombs / The Great Wall. The collotypes are made by the American photographer John David ZUMBRUN (1875-1949) who, after having served in the ranks of the American army, opened a studio, “The Camera Craft”, in the Legation district of Beijing where he stayed between 1910 and 1929. This rare album is the first in a series of 5.
Early 20th century photo album of Peking, China. 12 photos in total, each 5 1/2" by 7 3/4" on 6 individual pages. Album is 11 1/4" by 9 1/4" overall. Commercially produced for sale to tourists by the Camera Craft Co., Peking. Photos include various scenes from the Summer Palace to the Great Wall. All photos are tipped in at tops only and have onionskin paper between pages to protect them
Inside in very good condition, only very soft age toning and very little staining in 2-3 collotypes, one collotype has a little crease in the lower left corner, otherwise very clean // the covers (front and back) show a lot of wear along the edges and borders with some creases and fissures and also some staining on the front / but the inside is much better ! The onionskin paper also has soft creasing and some age toning on some of the papers. Overall still a nice collectible for any Peking or China collector !
