Here is a really nice condition vintage baseball bat from approximately 1900 to 1902. It is a A.G. Spalding & Bros. Trade Mark, Makers center logo model A-1 top of the line baseball bat. The bat is 33" long, but it still weighs a hefty 41 ounces. I have a 1899 Spalding catalog which I took a picture of to see that it was the top line Spalding bat that year. It sold for .75 while all the other Spalding bats sold for .05 to .50. In 1899 the stamping was different per the catalog. I d...on't have a 1900, 1901 or 1902 Spalding catalogs, but my 1903 catalog does not show a model A-1 in it, so I'm assuming this bat was from 1900-1902. The bats in the 1903 catalog show this center logo being used.See pics for more information. The center logo Spalding stamp unfortunately is a little light on the left side, and not all of the letters are readable. See pics to see for yourself. Not from use, but just something that happens at the factory. I'm assuming the taped handle is from the factory. There is a small chip on the knob which the picture should show. A deep cross has been cut into the knob end. This is really heavy and solid wood. The bat is old and used, so dings, scrapes, scratches, etc. are to be expected. But the bat is still nice and solid. A little deadwood on the back of the barrel on the bottom 4 layers of grain. Other than the light stamping this is a nice example of a high quality early 1900 baseball bat.See my other vintage bats on eBay this week.
