This antique Chinese civil first rank badge crane bird kesi kossu weave silk square dates from the mid 19th century during the Qing Dynasty. It is made of a colorful cut silk K'o-ssu, kesi weave fabric, with a woven Chinese silk tapestry pictorial design of the crane bird in the center, a sun disk on the l...eft for a mens badge, the Eight Buddhist symbols of good fortune, precious objects, bats, clouds and waves of water along the bottom. This is the first highest rank civil official badge of the crane bird done in the rare cut silk kesi pictorial tapestry weave with a decorative border trim edging and is not backed, unlined. The badge square measures 12 by 11 1/2 inches. It is in good condition, with only some slight fraying on the edging (see close-up). This is truly a rare and exceptional piece of antique Chinese rank badge art!
