This piece is simply gorgeous! It is cut from a truly remarkable petrified wood gem grade fossil stone! This is the latest and greatest of the nice petrified sycamore stand-ups I've offered on eBay and boy is it a beauty! Just look at that wood grain! The site that produced this specimen is where the finest fossil sycamore wood was ever found in all of the vast Sweet Home petrified forest. It's no longer open to collecting and these remarkable treasures are... becoming scarcer all the time. I had a small stash of beautifully sculpted petrified driftwood and was astonished to reveal the incredibly fine grained sycamore hidden inside! It's a truly striking and absolutely beautiful petrified sycamore specimen that would make a fabulous gift even for the non-wood collector. The mirror polished display face reveals exceptionally clear and absolutely beautiful wood grain that is unmistakably sycamore! Every now and then somebody comes across a new deposit of petrified wood that isn't all that new, but it hasn't been commercially collected before. This exceptional specimen is one such treat! It comes from a private ranch which is part of the vast Sweet Home deposit. Unlike most of the Sweet Home wood, this specimen is extremely well agatized and actually much more reminiscent of the other Central Willamette Valley deposit, Rogers Mountain. You simply aren't going to believe how gorgeous this piece is until you see it. It's actually a driftwood deposit so very few complete rounds are ever found, but the pieces that are recovered make exceptional specimens when cut as standups because they show both the weather worn exterior as well as the flawlessly preserved, gemmy wood grain inside. Several of these pieces are actually sycamore! Sycamore is one of the most collected of petrified wood because of it's unmatched wood grain - you can see the same ray fleck in the cut face of this stone that you might see in fine furniture! The wood is simply that good. I'll quit raving and let the picture do some of the bragging. We've been fortunate enough to obtain some choice cutting material from this location and we're ready to share that good fortune with wood collectors here on eBay. Whether you're new to the art or have an appreciation for the best, you'll love these gem quality petrified wood specimens! The end result is a new group of standups that are nearly unmatched in quality, both in terms of agate and cell structure. I'm confident you'll be impressed when you see one of these in person! This is a really beautiful specimen of the petrified driftwood found in this new dig. It's a pretty nice, wedge shaped piece of petrified wood, and it is unmistakably sycamore, even to the naked eye. It's a rich, golden yellow tone that is very pleasing to the eye, just like naturally finished wood in you'd expect to see in a home today! The exterior is worn smooth to the touch, but you can still see the wood grain in perfect detail. This wedge shaped display piece was cut at a steep sloping angle and then polished to show off all the gemmy detail inside. The base is cut flat so that you can present it nicely without a stand and show it off on a bookshelf or table. It took a beautiful polish, it really does look like a mirror! As beautiful as the face is with all those gorgeous flowing colors, the exterior is almost as interesting with an intricate, weather worn surface that's just fascinating to study with your eyes and fingers. It's another one of those beautiful fossil treasures that some happy Sticks-in-Stones customer is going to flip over! This piece stands about 3 3/g4" tall and measures about 4 3/4" wide on the polished face. Weight is about 1.44 lbs. Another Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary quality stone collectible!
