Nautilus, Eutrephoceras, dekayi, Pierre Shale Formation, Elk Creek, S.D., Ammonite Fossil Ball Sculpture. Large 5 inch Nautilus, sculpted from a 73 million year old Fossil Ball. This specimen is interactive and can removed from it's base for intimate viewing. Specimen has a large bite mark on its top side from a Cretaceous Age Predator. This type of mortality wound was common for these Cephalopods, due to the inner muscle attachment being located inside the body chamber and just before... the phragmocone. Once the Nautiloid was forced from it's shell, it was easy pickings for dinner. Specimen Fluoresces under UV light.
