This is one of those very rare Blue Forest pieces that draws a gasp on sight!!! It's not our largest round, but it is arguably the most perfect example of everything that is wonderful about this site in the entire rockshop! The wood preservation in this one is among the best you'll ever see. The blue veins of agate you see dividing up the round are actually desiccation cracks that formed in the log as it died and dried before being petrified. Tha...t it re-emerged millions of years later to produce the striking fossil gem you see now is one of the great mysteries of time. There are also fossilized insect borings full of petrified frass! A truly gorgeous display specimen and easily one of the best I've seen from this famous deposit! The high contrast fossilized algae frame really adds to the eye appeal in this amazing fossil treasure! It's not often you can pick up a truly collection altering piece like this at such a modest price - don't miss it! Here's an absolutely museum grade Blue Forest petrified round cut from the center of a perfectly formed log that's got it all. There's a lot of brilliantly colored blue agate framing the perfectly preserved log frozen inside. It's got really nice wood preservation throughout with a very well defined heart in the center of the log and the most stunning wood grain you'll ever see in one of these pieces! It's accented with more than its share of blue agate too! I'm amazed at the detail in the blue fortification agate that filled the voids around this log - the agate alone would make this a collector piece - coupled with the absolutely flawless petrified wood round inside it becomes a real collection centerpiece! What really makes this one unique however is the ring of bark that surrounds the log inside. I sometimes find rounds that have part of this ring, but in this very agatized specimen it surrounds the whole thing. Under magnification, the bark has visibly different cell structure than the rest of the pepperwood round shows - just amazing! The color is complemented with many different agate structures inside the generous agate filled voids between the bark and the log. The Blue Forest is a uniquely preserved bed of small branches and occasional logs in central Wyoming. The digging is hot and dusty, but every once in a while you stumble on a real treasure and this little log is one of them! The dark, blue/black, coffee and chocolate colors the wood is preserved in are characteristic of these specimens, as are the infusions of blue agate that filled the cracks and coated the log! This is a perfectly flat slice from the end (heel cut) of a larger than average sized log from a pepperwood tree. It's been cut and polished to show off all the gemmy detail from this 50 million year old treasure captured inside. It took a pretty awesome polish - something we strive to produce on every specimen we put our name on! The fibrous cell structure of the radial wood grain is exceptional and easily studied with a hand lens. This is a nice, eye catching specimen, and it is close to perfect - something that will show proudly in any collection. Larger than most Blue Forest rounds, this one measures about 4 1/4" across the polished face and is sliced roughly 0.38" thick. A nice, unique naturally wonderful stone collectible exclusively from Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary.
