This is definitely one of the best medium sized specimens I've ever seen come from this petrified forest. The dark color in this piece is quite beautiful and really has a lot of depth. The wood grain is just as amazing. This is a really interestingly colored, darker red shade of petrified wood from one of the rarest locations we deal with. The color is something like cherries in dark chocolate! It was found in China and is a com...plete cross section from an ancient conifer. The slab was imported with a terrible polish, but we've ground it flat and finished it properly to produce a world class petrified wood collectible specimen! The original cutting of this stone was quite primitive (as seen on the back) but we've ground it flat on the display face and produced a true collectible from an amazing piece of petrified wood. The finish has to be seen to be believed - the photo doesn't do it justice because the dark colors are actually showing strong reflections. It's a really nice piece with great structure and a very eye catching shape. There is one pretty good sized flake missing near the edge that was too deep to grind beyond (easiest to spot in the second photo, bottom right corner). It's clearly a conifer but which variety is tough to pin down (though a paleobotanist might have a reasonable go at it just from that photo!) It's quite solid and very well preserved.I wasn't sure this one was going to polish but it really finished up nicely. There is plenty of high grade agate in this specimen to show off the fine wood grain details right down to the tiny cells. The growth rings are fine and tightly packed together. Fine rounds from China are rarely seen and very few collectors have had the chance at such rarities until now! This gorgeous red specimen won't likely have any cousins and it was short so there aren't a lot from this log either. This could be your only chance to add one of these unique treasures to your own collection! This specimen has been carefully polished to show off all the gemmy detail inside. It took a beautiful polish, testament both to the quality of the specimen and the exceptional lapidary work we apply to every piece we produce! It's another one of those beautiful fossil treasures that some happy Sticks-in-Stones customer is going to flip over! This round is cut from the center of the log. It measures about 8 3/8" x 4 1/8" in diameter and is cut roughly 1/2" thick. Weight is 1.18 lbs. A nice, unique naturally wonderful stone collectible exclusively from Sticks-in-Stones Lapidary - eBay's Original Rockshop!
