Exceptionally rare and highly desirable, ca1890 Cast Bronze Figural, Mechanical Cigar Cutter known to collectors as “The Man on the Chamber Pot”. This fantastic, Mechanical / Figural Cigar Cutter sat atop a countertop at a Cigar Shop or perhaps a Saloon or Bar. To cut the tip off of a Cigar, the tip is inserted into the Man’s chest. By pressing down on the top of the man’s hat, his long neck goes back down into the collar of his jacket and a blade on the inside of the Cutter ni...ps off the cigar end. The Man’s head and neck are spring loaded and return to their original position when released.
This outstanding, Mechanical Figural Cigar Cutter measures approx. 5” tall overall and 2 5/8” by 3 1/8" at the base. The Cigar Cutter feature the figure of a well dressed man squatting over a chamber pot with his pants pulled down. When the tip of a Cigar is cut off, the dark brown wad of tobacco drops from the man’s behind into the chamber pot. I think you can guess where we are going here. The Cigar Cutter is very heavy and is cast of bronze that features a simply fantastic, rich and war surface patina.
