Maria Poveka Martinez (1884-1980) is probablythe most famous of all pueblo potters and was responsible for the rediscovery ofthe highly burnished black on black pottery of the San Ildefonso Pueblo. Thisblackware plate/bowl is decorated with a fine feather design on the face. Inthe mid-1950s, Maria began working with her son Popovi Da. He helped withdesign and firing her pottery. They also began to co-sign pieces as Maria- Popovi, and started dating each piece, around&nbs...p;1959. Thispiece is dated 6/60. Excellent condition. Diameter is just a bit larger than 6.5inchesHeight about 1 inch
