SCOTTISH STERLING COFFEE POT 1881 JAMES REID - NO MONO
A fine and rare Scottish Victorian sterling silver coffee pot, in the Indian manner.
James Reid, Glasgow, 1881.
In unique tapering barrel form.Adorned with a series of costumed figures in various dance, theater and difficult to explain postures.Embracing a goat to chest, riding an elephant headed dog, stag crown and whip, jester's nose, half man half ostrich (?), and even ...one with horns and wings.
Set within Indian inspired leaf and interwoven vine, with bird and figure in frame accents.Cover retains the original, hallmarked Indian pavilion finial with original fastener.Arabesque decorated handle and V mount spout.
This rare 1881 Scottish sterling coffee pot is 9 3/4 inchesand weighs 28 standard ounces.
In very fine condition.
Interior clean as if little used.
Rich sterling patina, retains original detail.
Original hand carved handle, secure.We had our silversmith add well matched composite heat stops.
