SUPERLATIVE NAVAJO TRANSITIONAL BLANKET, INCREDIBLE ORANGE - RED, C1885
Item History & Price
This beautiful blanket shows an early rendition of the Greek Key Border. Borders came to define these “new” designs of the Transitional Period of Navajo weaving as wearing blankets gave way to floor rugs. This large blanket also uses the stacked diamonds of the Germantown Period of the 1880s.
The colors are sensational with all the different cardings of red and orange for backg...round. It produces all sorts of exciting movement that encircles and rises and falls vertically. This entire historically important weaving with its stunning color variations just bowls you over like a sunrise into Bryce Canyon.
Measures approximately 55” x 92”. Circa 1885.
