GRAFTED Plinia Phitrantha, OTTO ANDERSEN, BRANCA VINHO " RARE Jabuticaba Tree
Item History & Price
limited supply (keep humid and warm, over 35F, for winter, recently grafted and taken from greenhouse)
For auction, I have one GRAFTED Plinia phitrantha, ''OTTO ANDERSEN, BRANCA VINHO" jabuticaba tree (scion from mature tree, time to fruit approx 2-4yr)
The actual tree for sale is in the photo.
This variety is very rare in the USA, and it's named after, Otto Andersen, the gentleman who selected it in Braz...il, who was a renowned collector of the best Jabuticaba trees.
The tree makes deliciously sweet fruits that are said to be one of the tastiest varieties avaiable. The foliage is very ornamental, being larger than the common Sabara (P. jaboticaba), with a deep green coloration upon maturity, and deep wine red when still freshly emerging. The tree can be very productive making over 3 or 4 crops per year.
This variety is notoriously sensitive to high pH, so if you have city water, with alkaline pH, you will have trouble keeping this plant alive. It can be kept happy with drenches of chelated Fe if you have a pH that is too high. If you are not worried about being able to keep the pH low, the tree should be easy to keep happy, just be sure to feed it regularly, but never too much nitrogen at once (which can kill a tree). This variety is also known for being quite precocious, sometimes fruiting from seed in as little as 3yrs, but usually 4-6yrs is normal.
