A beautifully made rare heavy English solid sterling silver pint tankard. It is hallmarked for Birmingham 1958 with the makers marks being A E J for A E Jones. It has a superb thick gauge Arts & Crafts /Elizabethan style, possibly a copy of an Elizabethan example, having a strange bobbin style downward slanting handle and applied band which reads Elizabeth Regina 1601 above this is the Royal coat of arms. I do not know why it bears the date 1601 but it possibly relates to her Golde...n Speech made to the House of Commons in that year. It is in superb condition, having no dings splits or repairs. Itmeasures over 5 inches (13cms) tall by the same across the rim and handle and weighs an incredible 402 grams. A beautiful top quality piece.
