Vintage Seiko 7016 - 5000 " Monaco " Automatic Flyback Chronograph, Aug 1972, Rare
Item History & Price
The 7016 movement and range of watches was made in the Daini Seikosha factory, in competition with the 6138/6139 ranges from Suw...a. These days, the 613x watches are very collectible but they're a lot more numerous than the 7016. The 7016 movement shares no parts with the 613x so this really was Seiko making directly competing watches in separate factories.
The chronograph features "stacked" hands on the subdial display, so one counts the minutes elapsed while the other counts hours. The chronograph hand itself is a "flyback" complication (so you can reset the running chronograph without stopping it first). The actual watch is in a kind on monocoque case, so the top part (and crystal) lifts off to reveal the dial & movement sitting in the solid case.
This particular watch is in really good condition; the case bears some scuffs from use over the years, but it's unpolished and in good shape, and the crystal has a few small scratches but is intact and clean. The dial and hands are in excellent condition, and the movement is running OK - it keeps good time and the chrono works well.
These are rare watches which don't come up for sale very often, and rarely in as good condition as this one.
