Designedand produced in the same in-house production line as the Rolex Prince, this earlyGruen Techni Quadron ref. 877/8 from 1929 is a virtually identical wristwatchwith its similar dial, case and movement of the Prince. Undoubtedly, this ArtDeco Gruen 'Prince' from circa. 1929 exudes quality and elegance and established itsprovenance as a doctor’s watch being of the earliest watches to achieve chronometerlevel precision. It’s even rarer and likely inspired its famous twin, the Ro...lexPrince. This particular watch has an interesting "patent pending" inscription on the back of the dial which predates the original 1929 release date.
This watch encompassesGruen’s most famous 877 caliber movement designed by the Aegler family in Biel, Switzerland, who tothis day still manufacture Rolex’s movements. At the time, Aegler had apartnership with Rolex and Gruen that resulted in the Gruen Techni Quadron andRolex Prince series, virtually the same watches but marketed for two differentmarkets (Europe and United States).
