RARE LARGE ALVIN .999 STERLING SILVER OVERLAY GREEN GLASS WINE PITCHER JUG VASE Hello, thank you for having a look at our auctions. Up for Auction with NO RESERVE is a RARE V.LARGE C1910 ALVIN .999 STERLING SILVER OVERLAY GREEN GLASS WINE PITCHER JUG VASE. The Pitcher is one of the finest examples I have sold in a very long time and the Silver is marked 999/1000 which is as close to Pure Silver as you can get and the finest quality you could ever hope to find. The Pitcher dates to around 1910 and blends the Art Nouveau Period and the Art Deco period nicely with great Grape and Leaf designs throughout. The Sterling Overlay is also marked as seen for the important American Silversmiths Alvin who specialized in Sterling Silver Overlay on Glass. The Glass is a dark emerald green and I am told this is most desirable.
Condition : The Pitcher is in excellent condition with no missing Silver overlay, no chips, cracks or repairs and has no cloudiness. There is a nice original owner monogram of an "M".
Size: The Pitcher is perfect for serving Wine, Water or your favorite beverage measuring 9-1/4 inches tall by 5-1/2 inches long across the handle or 4-1/2 inches across the base. The Pitcher holds approx 3-1/2 cups. This would also make a fantastic Vase for Roses etc.
