Hamilton Watch Co. 18 size 21 jewel open face lever-set pocket watch with movement marked “Flach’s Railroad Special” and with double-sunk enamel 24 hour dial marked “E.H. Flach, St. Thomas, Ont.” A rare and very attractive high grade Canadian railroad private label; E.H. Flach of St. Thomas, Ontario was an official railroad watch inspector for the Pere Marquette Railway and for the Michigan Central Railway. Watch is hou...sed in a 25 year gold-filled Union Watch Case Co. case with attractive floral engraving detail to its rear. Movement serial number is 286202.Running but balance motion is a bit sluggish after a full wind and I think likely this movement hasn’t seen a servicing in quite a long time. Very nice looking movement with excellent color and luster. Dial faces up very well but has some flaws including a light outer chapter hairline at 7:30, a very light hairline across its center section, some scattered mild surface scratches, some perimeter scrape in areas under the case bezel and some partially patched edge chipping under the case bezel in a few areas. Case has a good overall in hand look and feel though is showing moderate wear with reduced engraving detail, and case bezel leaves a tiny sliver of space to the band along the left side when closed. Glass crystal is in good condition though has a few small finish imperfections near center.
