The decoration is beautiful - all hand spot stitched and the Jacket features extensive rawhide fringe to the underside of the arms, shoulders and shoulder line on the back. This wonderful Cree Hide Jacket is thread sewn with spot stitched beadwork in a floral... design using chalk white, maroon, dark green, pink, white heart red, cobalt blue and turquoise colored beads. The decoration is applied on the pockets, shoulder, cuffs and down the front on each side of the closure. The Jacket retains two of its original four brass Military buttons these buttons are Three Cannon, regulation Canada Artillery Buttons that were used from 1855 to 1873 and help us to date the jacket to the third quarter on the 19th century. Each button is marked Superior Quality and has a stamped mark that reads P B B. This fantastic Plains Cree Jacket came to us from an Ohio Collection. The Jacket offered here is unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. It is NOT a reproduction or modern recreation but an original Cree Fringed Hide Jacket crafted in the late 19th century. There is also a very old repair to a 2 cut on the back of the Jacket and one of the pockets is partially detached at the top edge. We mention these minor flaws for completeness but none detract from the beauty of this outstanding Cree Jacket. The beadwork is exceptionally well preserved with no loss or damage. The rawhide fringe is also very well preserved.
