You won't see this again! Antique correspondence set with a sticker from "Royal School of Art Needlework Exhibition Road S.W" on the back of the letter box. Two pieces, a large 12" X 14.5" lap / blotting pad, and a letter box with a base of 11" X 5.5", and 8" high. The raised embroidery has a bird and flower theme, and the acorns are particularly raised. Appears to be covered in in a rough silk fabric, dividers inside letter box are pine. Still has some blotting papers inside... the tablet with writing on them.
One side of the curved front of the letter box is slightly caved, and the set is a bit dirty overall with a few stains. Looks like a water stain along the spine of the tablet. No smells that I can detect.
I found this at an estate sale in the 90s, a note inside the box looks like it was written by the collector, or perhaps the shop it was purchased from and dated 1987. This note claims that the set belonged to Lady Page Croft, wife of Lord Henry Page Croft, and that she was a friend of Queen Mary of Teck. Lord Croft was an MP, and worked with Churchill on some legislation. Then, it claims that the set was a gift from Babs (Mabel) Thorn, a Schiapparelli model. Interesting history if true!
