Rare German Mauser 6 " Dial Caliper 2 Hands. 001/. 010 Made For Scherr In 1960 ' S
Item History & Price
But this is what Mauser decided to make.
Take your standard vernier caliper model; rework the body to add a gear rack in a central goove; rework the vernier slide part to mount a dial that is driven on the rack. Then engrave a simple single digit inch ...scale on the caliper body. Make the dial read both .010 and .001 using 2 hands.
Now you just need a single line on the slide that lines up with the inch digits.
Hard to think how much simpler you could make it.
But, you end up with a complicated dial mechanism.
But, Mauser was so confident of their design that they did not provide for and adjustment to rotate the dial. Huh. Yet, after all these years, it's still hitting the zero. Wow.
I couldn't find much more about these. Helios was the only maker I could find from this earlier. Not many German made Calipers.
They work really well. Zips right out to 6.06 and then back to zero without any tightness or binding.
Engraved on the back that they were made for Scherr-Tumico (Formerly Tubular Micrometer Company of Minnesota.)
Not finding many of these around that are in this nice working condition.
Did not get a case with this.
