Very rare and stunningly beautiful, ca1890’s Native American Santee Sioux Men’s Quill Decorated Hide and Cloth Vest.
This beautiful, Santee Vest measures approx. 22” across the chest at the bottom of the arm holes and 24” across at the bottom edge. It is 23” long from the shoulder line to the peak at the bottom edge. There are two hide panels on the front of the vest and it is lined with trade cloth. The back of the vest and the trim is made from a... wonderful, bright red silk. The Vest is decorated with a fantastic and elaborate stylized floral design executed using multi-colored, died quills.

This rare and wonderful, Native American Santee Sioux Quill Decorated Man’s Vest displays beautifully and is in very good to excellent, original condition. The hide and cloth elements are exceptionally well preserved – intact and sound with no damage or repairs of any kind. The red silk fabric back still shines brightly. The quill work is also very well preserved – the colors are bright and vibrant with no significant fading to the dies. There is some minimal and unobtrusive quill loss but overall the Vest is very well preserved and displays beautifully. The Vest is 100% original and has had no repairs or alterations of any kind.
