Japanese name:Madaka awabi(マダカアワビ/眼高鮑)There are four types of large abalone that are edible in Japan. They are Haliotis discus discus, Haliotis discus hannai, Haliotis giant...ea and Haliotis madaka. Among them, Haliotis madaka has the lowest catch and has been called the legendary abalone for more than 10 years and is famous in Japan. The cause of poor catch is the effect of overfishing since 1950. Large numbers of fishermen have now drastically reduced their numbers, and now represent less than 1/100 to 1/1000 of all abalone catches in Japan. This type is the largest in Japan abalone. Therefore, the scientific name of Haliotis giantea was originally assigned to Madaka. However, due to confusion, a new name was given to Madaka. The largest are comparable to large specimens of Haliotis rufescens, but are not currently available. A great feature of Madaka is that the holes are sharper than other abalones.
This individual is also a good natural shell with its characteristics. Specimen with periostracum. And a good size. rare. *If the shipping cost is too high, or if you have purchased multiple items, we will change the shipping cost, so please wait for the invoice.
