UNIDENTIFIED - LATER GEORGE III ERA- HALLMARKED LONDON 1796 - HIGHLY COLLECTABLE! Onoffer is this rare set of five antique 18th century George III erasolid sterling silver teaspoons in the classic Old English pattern - please seethe photos.   Tothe front of the terminal, each has the initial 'P'.  From the style, these appear to... becontemporary to the spoons. Thespoons date to the end of the 18th century, hallmarked London 1796 -the marks on most are pretty clear.  Themaker's mark is present, it looks like 'M L'. Despite quite extensive research, I have not been able to identify themark - perhaps somebody recognises it - I would love to know. Thefact that these spoons are from the 18th century and that five havesurvived together makes them highly collectable.   Remember, pieces of flatware such as this are a nice way of starting or adding to yourcollection of antique silver, particularly spoons from the 18thcentury. Asa welcome distraction in these troubled days, why not start your own collectionof antique silver?  It need not beexpensive and you will have something to value and pass on when better timesreturn.   Personally, I love silver and am very interested in its history and use, so much so that Iam currently training as a silversmith and jeweller.  Last year Iobtained my own hallmark at the London Assay Office.  If you have any questions about antiquesilver, please feel free to contact me and I will try my best to answer yourqueries.  Pleasenote I do not do valuations. HALLMARKS:          For the maker's mark, please see thecomments above; London 1796; the collectable mark of George III's Sovereign'sHead to show that duty tax was paid on these piece of silver, only introducedin 1784.   APPROXIMATE MEASUREMENTS/WEIGHT:                        They are 12cm in length and have a total weightof 55.6g.   CONDITION:                       They are in pretty good antique condition overall, especially considering they are 224 yearsold, just the usual signs of wear commensurate with age and use of antiquepractical pieces of silver flatware.  Thereare slight distortions to the bases of some of the bowls.  Any dark marks, etc are reflections or bitsof age-related patina.
