Colonel Emilius Clayton was born on17 October 1841.He was the son of Emilius Clayton andEliza Hazlewood.He married Ellen Pemberton, daughterof Richard Laurence Pemberton, on 14 June 1883.He was Vice-Consul at Van, Turkey.He held the office of Justice of thePeace (J.P.) for Somerset.He gained the rank of Colonel in theRoyal Artillery.He was Professor of the Staff Collegebetween 1883 and 1890.He retired from the military in 1898.He died on 25 June 1921 at age 79.
