Original Description:
Presented is an antique, late 18th century, English sterling silver toast or letter rack made by Hester Bateman. This piece was made between 1770 and 1790. Hester Bateman is one of the most renown 18th century London silversmiths. The rack holds 6 slices of toast and is larger than average. The top is hand engraved with a crest of lion over a crown. The whole piece is raised on 4 ball feet.

The underside is marked with the lion passant for sterling silver purity and Hester ...Bateman's hallmark.

This piece is in great overall condition for its age. There are a few old, solder repairs, which are only noticeable upon close inspection.

The rack measures 4 3/4 by 7 3/4 inches and is 6 1/2 inches tall.
