However, it's more important to note that he wasn't just an ordinary member. A senior at the ...time, he and seven other Michigan undergrads petitioned the national Sigma Phi Society at the 1858 Convention to create a chapter at the University of Michigan. The group was successful and, as such, Alexander was instrumental in founding a chapter that still exists today.
