STORY BEHIND OBTAINING THESE ITEMS:
I live in Los Angeles, CA. About 2 years ago, I responded to an ad on Craigslist of some guy giving away things for free. I responded to the ad and went and collected a number of items (these items included) from this guy. After inquiring why he was giving away all of these things, he proceeded to tell me that his brother had moved out recently and left all this stuff behind. He didn’t want it taking up space in his garage, so he was giving it away. So I loaded my truck that day with all that I could fit inside, not even knowing what I had! I like “treasure hunting” and had fun getting home, unloading everything and going through each item, one by one, through giant bins of the most random things. Well, needless to say, these Press Passes were in one of those bins.
Upon doing some research, I discovered that apparently Jim Wilson was the CBS cameraman assigned to follow Robert Kennedy that day he was shot at the Ambassador Hotel. From what I can tell through my research is that Jim Wilson was one of the first (if not the first) cameraman to get to Kennedy after he was shot. Furthermore, it was the light from Jim Wilson’s Camera that lit the scene of the famous photo (taken by: Bill Eppridge) of the bus boy, Juan Romero, holding Robert Kennedy’s Head after he was shot.
Do some research for yourself. Look up Jim Wilson, CBS Cameraman for Robert Kennedy. It won’t be difficult to locate many articles on the subject.
To stumble on such an incredible piece of history amazes me! I’m sure the one who wins this auction knows a lot more about the subject than I do and can appreciate these items more than I can. For that reason, I have decided to list them for auction.
Happy Bidding!
