Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:2832567 | Tribal Affiliation: Sioux |
Offered here is the striking and classic portrait of the War Leader who led the Lakota Sioux Warriors at the Battle of the Little Big Horn. The proud and stoic Sitting Bull stands in full figure holding a catinlite pipe and a Sioux beaded tobacco bag in his left hand. He wears beaded wool leggings and moccasins and a single coup feather. He stares intensely into the lens of the camera and it is quite easy to see why this Great Warrior struck fear in the hearts of his enemies. The portrait was taken while Sitting Bull and his band were being held as Prisoners of War at Fort Randall, Dakota Territory.
The Image is a striking, full length, standing portrait of the proud Lakota War Chief holding a twisted stem catlinite / pipestone pipe and a simply fantastic, bead decorated pipe / tobacco bag in his left hand. The back of the mount carries advertising for the photographer’s collection of “Indian Relics; Sioux, Apache, etc.”.
This rare and wonderful, Sitting Bull Cabinet Card Photograph is in very good condition. The Photograph exhibits sharp focus, strong contrast and rich, warm tonality. Both the Photo and the card mount have light soiling and the mount has light edge wear..
