Stanley Sweetheart Tool Dovetailed Chest Cabinet Box Bailey Bedrock SW Plane 1 2
Item History & Price
Reference Number: Avaluer:2829954 | Brand: Stanley |
It is in as found condition and has... not been cleaned or fussed with. The large Stanley logo is incredibly vivid and bright—all in all quite striking considering its age. All hardware is believed to be original and accounted for, save for the door side of the locking mechanism and its corresponding key. The wood looks to me like american black walnut, but again I am certainly no expert. It weighs about 15 pounds empty. I believe it dates to the 1940s-1950s, but again, if anyone can offer more reliable information please write me.
As far as the cabinet’s overall condition it has all the bumps and bruises one would expect to see on a cabinet this age. In addition, there a small crack on the back panel at one of the corners (pictured). Regarding provenance, the paint splatters and/or chewing gum stains on the top of the door give me reason to believe the chest may have been part of a school shop class. That being said, I can’t say for certain as I only recently acquired it. In any regard, the locking mechanism is also missing on the door side of the cabinet. I imagine the chest was forcefully pried open by a lone band of vagrant miscreants, at which point the latch on the door side was likely tossed asunder.
It pains me to sell this beautiful cabinet but I feel it would be better appreciated by a collector or a more serious tool enthusiast. Although shipping something this size is certainly costly, I am going to include free ground shipping in the USA in order to keep things simple. No international shipping is available. Thank you for looking and have a great day!
Just so everything is perfectly clear: this chest is being sold as-is. It is not in perfect condition but it is still a great collector piece.
