Very rare and stunningly beautiful, original ca1900 Native American Sioux Indian Bead and Quill Decorated Hide Bag. This outstanding, turn of the 20th century Sioux Beaded and Quilled Drawstring Bag / Belt Pouch measures approx. 20" long (including the rawhide fringe) and 5" wide at its widest point.
This wonderful Sioux Drawstring Bag is sinew sewn by hand with spot stitched beadwork decoration executed using red, pea green and chalk white colored seed beads.... The front of the Bag features horizontal lanes of red died quills along with two affixed roundels decorated with red quills, chalk white and red beads and having central brass bells. There are feather filled, tin cone fringe elements and the bottom edge features quill wrapped, hide slats and a long, rawhide fringe finish. The Bag retains its original rawhide hanger is is one of the most elaborately decorated and beautiful Sioux Hide Bags that we have had the pleasure to own in the past 40+ years.

This very rare and original, ca1900 Bead and Quill Decorated Sioux Bag is in very good condition. All of the hide elements are well preserved and sound with some light, age appropriate soiling. The beadwork is beautiful and exceptionally well preserved with no bead loss. A few of the cone danglers are missing and there is some quill loss to the slats at the bottom edge. It is possible that the rawhide fringe finish is remounted but if so it is an excellent and authentic match.
