This is your opportunity to own 2 hand carved dolls by the late Richard and Berdina Crowe. These dolls are approximately 40 years old and are exceptional. They are carved from cherry and dressed in traditional clothing of the early 1900s. The man is in a walking pose carrying a hand carved walking stick and dressed in swede pants. The woman also is carrying a hand carved walking stick. These dolls are in great condition considering their age. The clothes have almost no fading.... See the photos for overall detail and condition. Both dolls are about 9 inches tall. These dolls are not signed.
Richard and Berdina Crowe perfected the art of carved Cherokee dolls complete with moving parts and limbs. Their dolls are increasingly hard to find. They have had dolls in Museum exhibitions throughout the United States, including the Smithsonian and at the New York City Haye Center. The Department of Interior's Indian Arts and Crafts Board in cooperation with Qualla Arts and Crafts Mutual Inc. hosted an exhibition of their work in 1980.
These dolls are from our family’s collection. Our family lived and worked on the Cherokee Reservation in Western N.C. for over 35 years. During that time we were able to acquire some fantastic craft pieces from the local artists. We need to downsize and have too many items to adequately display. We are currently selling some of our collection for others to enjoy. We hope you will love them as much as we have.Shipped with USPS Priority Mail. I pride myself on honesty and will package carefully. If you have questions please ask prior to bidding. Please check my listings often as I will be adding other Cherokee Crafts from our collection periodically
