This is a beautiful antique 4 1/2” Lewis no. 12 swivel bench vise in excellent condition. The twin beam design was patented by the Lewis Tool Company of New York, NY in 1892, and is the only one of its kind that I’m aware of.I was very excited to get my hands on one, as I’d heard of them, but never actually seen one. It had been sitting in the shop virtually untouched for decades, and other than being filthy, was in excellent condition. I wish I had taken pictures, but I took it ...apart and cleaned it thoroughly, greased it, and painted it with a hammered black finish that I think suits it wonderfully.Other than what you can see in the pics, being mostly marks from hammer strikes etc., there is no damage, jaws are in good shape, it opens/closes, and swivels exceptionally smoothly, and there is the right amount of play in the dynamic jaw.Please see pictures closely and carefully as they represent a large part of this description.
