This is a very interesting small sewing machine purchased from a local collector. This Remington "Empire" Pat. April 23, 1863 is a chain stich with spool handle mounted in reverse. This machine was referred to as a fire hydrant style. The handwheel moves smoothly but it slipped out of a dowel pin that moves the sewing mechanism up and down as pictured. it has exterior wear consistent with its age. The machine measures 11" Long from foot to foot, and 8" long from foot to foot. ...
