A beautiful antique box set upon four tall legs I suspect this to be an original 1920's item in the 'Nile style' when Tutankhamen's tomb discovery saw a rebirth of fascination in all things Ancient Egypt. The casket like box may even be modelled on similar full size caskets used to store chattels in the tomb for the occupants afterlife?!The amazing outer surface features a beautiful burl wood, expertly inlaid with brass. This beautiful and finely detailed decoration shows beautiful An...cient Egyptian motifs and I wouldn’t mind betting this was an actual reproduction of a casket perhaps found in a tomb in The Valley of the Kings?Note one of the 4 legs is slightly bent inwards however still displays fine and is stable on its feet. Inside a plush velvet lining is original and survives beautifully. The box presents in good solid vintage condition, A few surface marks and scuffs, just age appropriate superficial wear and this beautiful box is a high quality piece as you can plainly see. No makers marks. Original lock is fitted however no key present.The box is 16.5cm wide x 14cm height x depth 8cm.
