FRAMEABLE Arthur St. Clair manuscript autograph document with full "Arthur StClair Sr." in text and additional “Ar St. Clair” at bottom. One page, dated 1772 at Bedford county. "personally appeared before me Arthur St. Clair one of his Majestie's Justices...John Raeburn and being duly sworn" etc. 9.5” x 7.5, laid, rag-content paper; tiny hole at intersection of folds, otherwise fine condition."Scottish-born Arthur St. Clair had become the King's magistrate of Westmoreland... County, Pennsylvania, when it was founded on February 26, 1773. In 1777, Brigadier General St. Clair became the commander of Fort Ticonderoga in New York. As British General Burgoyne's army prepared to attack, St. Clair evacuated the fort. St. Clair was court martialed for his actions and exonerated. A Member of the Continental Congress from 1786-1787, under the Articles of Confederation, he served as seventh President of the United States in Congress Assembled from February 2, 1787 to October 29, 1787.
