Woodrow Wilson (1856-1924) signed this friendly typed letter to Mr. Henry S. Chapman of Schenectady, NY in December of 1912, while he was serving as Governor of New Jersey. He writes: “My dear Mr. Chapman:- I cheerfully comply with your request for my autograph and am complimented that you should have desired it.”Woodrow Wilson was elected to be the 28th President of the United States (1913-1921) after serving as the 34th Governor of New Jersey (1911-1913). His presidency was marke...d by the passage of numerous pieces of progressive legislation and for his leadership through World War I. He was awarded the Nobel Peace Prize in 1919 for his role in the creation of the League of Nations.Typed on a 9 ¾” x 7 7/8” sheet of “State of New Jersey Executive Department” imprinted stationery. Condition: Mailing fold lines, remnants of mounting on verso have bled through the paper and there is some thinness of paper (not affecting text or signature), a spot of light soil at bottom left margin.
