Founded in 1983 by designer and craftsman John Economaki, Bridge City Tools has long been known for its often unique and always aspirational tools.
This innovative joinery system turns the conventional process of cutting joints upside down – literally. Instead of moving a handsaw across a stationary piece of wood, you move the wood over the saw, which remains in a fixed position on a rigid platform. The wood rides back and forth on a sliding tabletop that runs along steel guide rods to ensure precise alignment with the blade, and has linear bearings for smooth travel. This permits outstanding control, letting you make clean, accurate cuts with minimal noise and dust, yielding a kerf just 0.021" thick. With a little practice, you can produce virtually flawless joints without need for fine-tuning with a plane or chisel. Suitable for stock up to 1 3/4" thick and 6" wide, it is particularly useful for small workpieces that are difficult to control on a table saw or bandsaw.
A hand-crank mechanism lets you raise the blade with each pass in precise increments, or set it to a fixed height for stopped cuts. The blade tilts up to 45° left or right, with adjustable stops that you can lock in any position for repeat cuts.
Included fence brackets mount in slots on the table top and can be skewed up to about 25° for angled cuts; you can also mount your own custom-made jigs in the slots or install them in place of the wooden subfence.
