These dolls are wonderful examples of the work of Richard and Berdina Crowe, of the Eastern Band of Cherokee.The dolls are hand carved of cherry wood and are of exceptional craftsmanship, standing approx 9 inches tall.They are in excellent condition.
Dressed in traditional Cherokee clothing of the early 1900s, the woman's dress and the man's shirt are of the same bright red fabric.All the clothin...g is in excellent condition, although there is a slight spot on the woman's apron.She has a woven wool shawl which is removable.The man's suede pants have fringe down both legs.Both dolls have a walking stick.
These are signed on the bottom of the base, as shown in one of my photos.There is a peg on each base which fits into the bottom of one foot.
Dolls by Richard and Berdina Crowe have been displayed in museums throughout the United States, including the National Museum of the American Indian in New York City, which is part of the Smithsonian Institution.
This is a great opportunity to own a pair of these museum quality vintage dolls.
