The report is bound in black cloth with ornate design and gold gilt tit...les to spine with “House Documents” engraved on spine. This copy contains eyewitness testimony to the house regarding the battles between pro slavery forces and abolitionist in Kansas that in part lead to the outbreak Civil War in 1861.
"Bleeding Kansas" was a lightening rod in the battle between pro-slavery and anti-slavery forces. This led to an influx to Kansas of pro-slavery forces, and after much turmoil and bloodshed, the officials elected during this period voted to permit slavery. The abolitionists formed a separate government with a constitution that prohibited slavery, and a Congressional committee was appointed to investigate numerous allegations of fraud and violence in connection with the vote. This is the report of that committee. Includes majority report, minority report, minutes of the committee and testimony. As always any questions feel free to ask.
