Nice British pair cased watch from middle XVIII century.Diameter of the outer case is 47mm, inner case is 40mm.The watch is a quality piece.The movement is equipped with cylinder escapement, a high-end feature for middle of XVIII century, used primarily by best London watchmakers this time.It also feature half quarter repeater, striking 18 hour.Movement is nicely finished, it has diamond endstone, pierced and engraved balance bridge with grotesque mask, steel balance wheel, round pillars. While ...cylinder escapement is less depends on mainspring force variations, watch still equipped with fusee and chain.Good example of British watchmaking skills from mid-XVIII century.Benjamin Gray (1676-1764), fine watchmaker, was clockmaker to King George II since 1744. Gentleman's 18k Gold J.W. Benson Half Hunter Pocket Watch Circa 1900's A gentleman's 18ct gold J.W. Benson half hunter pocket watch Swiss made circa 1900's in beautiful condition for age with white enamel dial, black Roman numerals and subsidiary seconds dial. Appears to be working perfectly with a lovely soft, regular tick and inscribed 18k 1102377 on the inside back and inside front of the outer shell and on the inside cover of the workings just above the hinge. The inscription inside reads 'E...xamined by J. W. Benson 62 64 Ludgate Hill, London, Swiss Made Watchmaker by Warrants to the Queen and the Prince of Wales No. 1102377'. The case is in beautiful condition with some extremely minor dints commensurate with age, and the glass is in perfect condition. Two of the black Roman numerals at 6 and 7 on the outside case are slightly faded as shown in the photographs. The diameter of the watch is approximately 49.5 mm and the weight is 125 gms. There are also two chains with the watch, a shorter chain inscribed JSCH and Coog Regd 907 and Prov Pat with a number on the chain itself. The second chain is longer and more ornate with the initial 'H' on a semi-precious stone and marked W J P 9 375 and some other marks that I am unable to decipher. Please don't hesitate to get in touch should you require additional pictures or further details. The watch belonged to my husband's grandfather and the shorter chain has his late father's initials.
