A complex and fascinating group with enough charm for it's own cabinet. 8" tall by about 8" wide. The standing angel, who holds a mallet in one hand a file in the other, is looking down at a drawing being completed by the angel seated just below him. There really is a drawing on the pad. It must have been difficult to paint it there under his arm in the manufacturing firing decorating process. This seated sketcher is the one with the only noticeable damage in the group it's wing is visible from ...the front. The other seated angel's wing tip damage is on the back side of the group. This is the one examining the plaster casting of an armless, headless, semi-legless, torso with male genetalia. The look on this one's face is priceless as he stares into the crotch. They must be training for jobs in the modelling room at the factory. Besides the blue crossed swords, there is a hand incised 4 and a tiny stamped 6. The grayish brown hand painted number is 67.
A SUPERB and EXTREMELY RARE Meissen porcelain figure group, C.1740 45. Modeled by J.J. KANDLER. Called 'The Impetuous Lover. From The Commedia D'Elle Arte, or also known as the Italian Comedy. Please see below for an almost identical piece sold by Christies London 11 days ago, sold for 93, 750. I am VERY proud to offer this to ebay from my private collection, and I offer it with a heavy heart in case it sells, as I have treasured it for 20 years. Originally, it came from another big experienced... auctioneers who sells Meissen before 1760 regularly, and said, "Harlequin is conducting the lovers", and "that the cupid was mocking the lover". A really amusing funny group, typical of the Commedia D'Elle Arte, and really FULL OF MOVEMENT. Also, note THE REALLY STRONG EARLY COLOURS, PARTICULARLY ON HARLEQUIN His colours are SUPERB, and his face has wonderful character. Just like the Christies one below. SEE ALL THE INFORMATION BELOW. Including being in Kandler's taxa, and an example in the Gardiner Museum Toronto.SIZE:- 7 ins 17.5 cms high by 6 12 ins 16.5 cms across.CONDITION:- ABSOLUTELY SUPERB, AND I MUST ASSUME SIMILAR TO CHRISTIES FIGURE( I CAN'T GET THIS REPORT). MINE HAS MINOR RESTORATION AND VERY SMALL DAMAGE. HER FINGERS ON HER RAISED HAND RESTORED, END OF HER ONE FOOT TOES MISSING. HARLEQUIN'S EDGE OF HAT RESTORED. THESE TWO MINOR RESTORATIONS ARE PROFESSIONAL AND INVISIBLE. THE EXTREMELY VULNERABLE CUPID HAS HAD HIS WINGS RESTUCK CLEVERLY. I would be amazed if Christies figure was any better condition, and could have been worse. However, the buyers clearly accepted it. Also, I consider mine better painted, as my lady has typical Meissen pre 1760 colours, and the man stronger colours.PLEASE ASK MANY QUESTIONS AT EBAY IN THE FIRST INSTANCE. IT IS NOT GOING TO BE SOLD FOR PEANUTS. SORRY. OTHERWISE, IT WILL RETURN TO MY COLLECTION. PLEASE ASK AFTER IF YOU MISS IT. I COULD EVEN BE PERSUADED TO MEET IN PERSON TO COMPLETE, . FOR THE BUYER'S COMPLETE SATISFACTION, AS I REALIZE THAT IT IS A LOT OF MONEY. ALSO, PAYPAL CHARGES ME 4.25 FEES. ASK QUESTIONS PLEASE.I am unable to give a link to Christies, as ebay will remove it, but it is very easy to look it up. It is CHRISTIES- LONDON sale 13th November 2019, lot number 68, with full photos. (16.5 cm.) highThis group is mentioned in Kändler's Taxa where he describes the scene in detail. LARGE ANTIQUE MEISSEN PORCELAINFIGURAL GROUP OF A WOMAN AND CHILDREN Here for auction is this quite detailed antique 19th C German Meissen figural grouping of a woman and two children The modeling is very intricate, and I can only imagine the time it took to produce it. It's quite large, at approx. 11" tall 5 34" X 7" at the oval base. This is an antique 19th C example, appropriately marked with Meissen's crossed swords, decorator's initials, numbered, etc. For a piece of this magnitude, it's i...n very good condition. The boy is lacking some fingers on his left hand and a book on his lap, and the woman has slight loss to the plumage in her hair. All very minor. Otherwise, no chips, cracks or repairs. Please view all of the images, as they are part of this description. It is a stunning antique Meissen figure you'll be proud to add to your collection
For sale is a superb figural sweetmeat dish made by Meissen in the 19th century. One of the nicest I have ever seen Very nicely modeled with a lady figurine holding a basket in front of her while lying on a base with gold and turquoise trim along the edge. The gentleman is nicely dressed with a fancy jacket hand painted with lots of flowers and puce pants as well as a white shirt. The basket on these pieces if most often solid but here is is reticulated with a nice floral arrangement in the bott...om center and lots of applied 3D flowers to the outside as shown. Some gold trim to it as well. A really stunning piece and I have the matching female version to him as well if anyone would like a pair of these. The piece is in superb condition with just a touch of damage to the 3D flowers which is normal. Two leaves are chipped and two flower petals as far as I can tell. He also a some minor chip to two toes on the outstretched foot. The piece displays perfectly The figure is marked underneath with the under glaze blue crossed swords mark, the usual impressed incised numbers as well as a painters mark in form of a blue 35. as shown. The piece is about 4.5 inches tall, 6.75 inches wide and 5 inches deep. German Germany Figuerliche Schale FigurIf you like my goodies have a look at my other auctions for a lot more top maker pieces. For sale is a rare unused head bust for a cane handle or bottle stopper made by Meissen in the 19th century. These are often either attached to a cane already or have the cork screw metal piece attached or a piece of cork but it is hard to find them with the hole empty underneath. Ready to be used in any which way you can imagine :) The head here is of a lady wearing a white cap with a blue trim and wearing a purple shirt of which we only see the collar area. The face is extremely well done down... to the teeth which I tried to show in the pictures. The piece is in superb condition with maybe a tiny spot of wear but about as nice as you will find. I don't think it was ever used as intended. The underside is marked with the blue crossed swords mark as shown. First choice. The head is about 1.75 inches tall, 1.25 inches wide and 1.75 inches deep.
