This outstanding Great Lakes Hide Bag measures approx. 6.5" long overall (including fringe) and 7 1/2" wide at the top edge. The delicate, embroidered decoration is simple but beautiful and very well preserved.
This wonderful Metis / Cree Pouch is thread sewn and features a hand embroidered image of flowers surmounted by a heart. It features a flap closure and retains its original, rawhide strap. There is a border of short, hand cut fringe.
The Great Lakes Indian Hide Pouch offered here is unconditionally guaranteed original and of the period. It is NOT a reproduction or modern recreation but an original Native American Metis / Cree Bag crafted around the turn of the 20th century. This very rare and original, ca1900 Hand Decorated Hide Bag is in very good to excellent condition. All of the hide elements are well preserved - supple and sound with no physical damage or repairs. The embroidery is very well preserved with no loss or damage to the flowers and heart but some minor loss to the “squiggle” line on the closure side. The Bag retains its original, rawhide strap. All elements of the Bag are original and there has been no repairs or restorations - this wonderful Metis / Cree Bag is 100% original and 100% beautiful.
