Vintage Murray and Gray Company Civil War Confederate Bowie knife
You are bidding on an extremely rare Civil War Confederate Bowie knife. This knife was manufactured by the Murray and Gray Company. John Murray and John Gray were based out of Columbus Georgia and supplied the Confederacy with everything from Tents and Swords to Rifles.
This heavy Bowie features a blade just under 10 inches, with an over...all length of 15-1/2 inches. The handle appears to be hickory or some other hard-wood and is secured to the tang by three steel pins and a steel bolster. Overall condition is as you would expect for a civil war era bowie, it has lead a hard life and appears to be well used but otherwise intact and complete. The metal shows light frosting and pitting throughout and it appears to have been cleaned up a few times. This pattern Murray and Gray Bowie is well known and documented, it appears to have been a popular pattern for this firm.
Bowie’s made in the South during the war are hard to find. This is a rare opportunity to own a piece of history. Please examine all the photos, do all your homework and ask all your question prior to bidding.
