A Chinese qianlong or qing dynasty pottery/ceramic vase inlayed with solid silver. In the style of a Ming bronze ritual vase but this vase is made from pottery.!
Very unusual and experimental method for a Chinese vase.
I have bought this ages ago as a Chinese bronze luster vase. But I was cleaning it up and noticed that many symbols started to appear trough the heavy patina.
Turns out that the bronze luster has tarnished dark and discolored ov...er time and had hidden the symbols away.
A real hidden gem!
I HAVE POLISHED THE VASE HALF WAY ONLY. You can see that one half is polished clean and the other side is left the same way I found it. I left it like that so you can use this for reference to determine age. You can decide your self if you want to polish it further or leaf it as is.
Has character marks to the bottom, so i guess it's qianlong or qing dynasty 1700s or 1800s.
Was bought in the 1960s in the UK for £15 GBP which was a fairly large amount of for that time period. I can remember my old man telling me that his wages were like £50 a month during the 60s. So must have been a large sum for a vase considering that Chinese art was not valuable during that time.
