Archie Comics #1 from Winter, 1942-43.INCOMPLETE (missing centerfold); otherwise Good condition with supple off-white to white pages. Covers detached from interior. A few pieces missing from covers (at the staples middle spine, near top right front cover corner, and top front cover spine). 1" vertical tear by bottom front cover spine. Multiple tiny tears to several cover edges. Slight spine roll to book. Small horizontal tear through book at middle spine (just above the single st...aple), average size is about a half-inch on each page. Center most wrap is tight at the staple; prior ten or so pages have a single diagonal tear near the lower right, which starts as a 1/2" on the later pages and gets slightly larger as you get further away from center wrap to a maximum size of about 1" on just a couple of pages. Small 1/4" tear in same area of first several pages on the back half of the interior pages.Overall this is a very solid (albeit it incomplete due to the missing centerfold) "Good" copy of this Golden Age classic! This book would very likely come back as a 2.0/2.5 green label (incomplete) if sent in to CGC for grading. I have submitted a few similar Archie #1’s over the years (all of which had detached covers), and this copy is nicer than a 2.0 copy that I sent in a few years ago, so I’m confident that CGC would grade it no worse than 2.0. Book is 100% unrestored. This book has significantly shot up in value over recent years and now finds itself firmly planted in the Top 20 Golden Age Comics in Overstreet (currently ranked #20, with a top Guide value of $195, 000). A low grade set of just front/back covers brought nearly $3, 000 at auction in 2014; and last year, a heavily restored CBCS .5 (also missing the centerfold) sold for $5, 600. A comparable complete copy would easily be a $20, 000+ book; this is your chance to get a beautiful copy at a discounted price.Overstreet Price Guide GD value (for the complete comic): $12, 550.
