This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in mountings. The blade is signed "Yoshu Hojo ju Hiromasa saku 豫州北条住博正作", dated "Showa Juhachi-nen Juni-gatsu hi (a day, Dec. 1943) 昭和十八年十二月日", shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time period made blade. Hiromasa`s real name is Torio Kamematsu, was born in 1908 in Ehime prefecture, made swords during WWll time and after the war as a Gendai smit...h, listed in John Slough's book page 34, 35. The blade is traditional hand forged, in old polish, shows fine scratches but no rust, no stain and in good condition. The temper line is wavy gunome-choji temper and has deep temper at the point. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is heavy metal scabbard, no dent, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose and in good condition. Lock mechanism works fine. Tsuba and seppa are matched number 5 stamped. It measures 26+1/2" tip to the guard, 25+1/2" cutting edge, 1+3/16" width, 6.5 mm thickness at the notch and 38+1/2" in mountings.
