We offer here a 1915-1930s Navajo Third Phase Chief's rug/blanket, size 67" wide x 55" high (one end is 65" wide, the top end as hung on the wall is the 2" more narrow width). First 2 photos show both sides on the wall. You'll see some fade side to side, not much. It has all original corners / tassels / edge cording, almost 100% intact around the entire perimeter except for 2" along one edge, shown, where a little weft has worn away exposing the white warp thread. Both sides of this da...mage are shown, with one side (brighter color side) not showing the white warp thread. This rug has been professionally de-bled of any bled dyes, and washed. No stains are apparent either side. It's in remarkably great condition considering it's over 100 years old. Take a look at some of the lazy lines in the dark brown stripes, etc. Some orange has almost disappeared in a few areas, more noticeable on the faded side.
Note regarding Navajo Churro Sheep wool / yarn: We see ebay sellers claiming that their rug for sale on ebay is woven with Navajo Churro wool. No such claim is legitimate, unless the seller knows where the specific yarns originate, meaning from which sheep. Churro yarn is not identifiable from touch or appearance. Knowledge of wool origin is impossible with old rugs and blankets. We buy our Navajo Churro sheep yarn from the only legitimate Churro yarn vendor in America that sells Churro yarn in quantity. They are located in El Prado, NM (outside Taos). Genuine Churro yarn costs roughly 2X what all other trading post Navajo weaving yarn costs ($26 / lb. compared with routine trading post yarn ~$10 - $13 / lb.). The Churro yarn that we give to all of our weaver to weave rugs for us is also sold at higher retail cost at a weaving supply shop in Taos, NM (Weaving Southwest).
