This is a Japanese WWll Army officer`s sword in civilian mountings. The blade is signed "Seki Zenjo Ogawa Kanekuni 関善定小川兼国" with 昭 inspection stamp, shinogi-zukuri shape, WWll time period ca. 1940 era made blade. Kanekuni`s real name is Ogawa Sentaro, lived in Seki city, Gifu prefecture, made swords during Taisho to WWll time, listed in John Slough`s book page 45. The blade is hand for...ged, in old polish, shows fine scratches but no rust and in good condition. The temper line is wavy chusuguba temper pattern throughout the blade and has deep temper at the point. Forging grain is tight ko-itame hada, no openings, no blister and no forging flaws at all. There is no bend, no nick, no crack and cutting edge is sharp. The scabbard is lacquered wood scabbard, shows minor lacquer loss but, no crack, no bend and in good condition. The handle is tight fit, tsuka-ito wrapping is no cut, no loose and in good condition. Tsuba is WWll time period made nadekaku shape flower motif brass tsuba with nice patina. It measures 27+1/8" tip to the guard, 26+1/2" cutting edge, 1+1/4" width, 6.5 mm thickness at the notch and 38+1/2" in mountings.
