This item was in a tag sale with other instruments and I bought it not realizing it was in a Starrett box.  As there are no numbers on it I don't know what it is.  Its 3 1/2" long x 2" in diameter.  The bronze Tip screws into the end .When the outer cylinder is turned one revolution (its divided into 25 segments that are in turn divided into tens )it moves 25 /1000 I think.  I'm hoping someone with knowledge will fill me in
